Summary data of spatiotemporally continuous temperature monitoring using optical fibers (Loop2) in the internal forest areas from 2016 to 2019

A fibre-optic DTS (distributed temperature sensing) system using Raman-scattering optical time domain reflectometry was deployed to monitor a boreal forest research site in the interior of Alaska. Surface temperatures range between -40 C in winter and 30 C in summer at this site.
A total of 5.4 km of fibre-optic cable sensor (multi-mode, GI50/125, dual-core, outer diameter : 4.0mm, Armored FO Cable. Manufactured by Kaiphone Communication, Taiwan/China) was installed to monitor ground temperatures across the landscape at high resolution (0.5m intervals at every 30 min). Measurements started in July 2016. This dataset only contains the monthly and annual averages until January 2019.
