The only known function of eukaryotic RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RdRP) is the generation of siRNAs or siRNA precursors in the RNA interference process. The Branchiostoma lanceolatum genome contains several RdRP genes. This study aims at characterizing B. lanceolatum small RNAs, search evidence of RdRP activity in small RNA populations, and identify RdRP preferred RNA templates.
