Lectin-based staining of surface carbohydrate molecules on LESCs.

The LESCs surface contained high amount of sialic acid, N-acetylglucoseamine and galactose molecules. Just around half of the cells contained mannose and two thirds contained fucose molecules, showing subpopulations within the LESC cell culture. These carbohydrate molecules determine the ECM-binding and immunological properties of the cells.
