Betulin activates hepatic PPARalpha-FGF21 signaling to combat obesity (PRJCA043044)

Obesity and its comorbidities (e.g., insulin resistance, hepatic steatosis) represent a global health crisis, yet current pharmacological interventions face limitations in efficacy and safety. Natural compounds offer a promising alternative. Betulin, a birch-derived triterpenoid, has demonstrated anti-obesity potential. Here, we reveal betulin as a natural PPARa agonist that activates FGF21-dependent signaling, broadening therapeutic horizons for metabolic disorders.
