India (2006): Treatment Seeking Behaviour for Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Male Clients of Female Sex Workers in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu

A cross sectional population based survey called an STI Output Tracking Survey-I was conducted in December 2006. The representative sample of 950 men who reported visiting female sex workers and experiencing STI symptoms in the preceding 12 months randomly recruited from the high risk areas of project towns in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu were interviewed using a structured questionnaire while following a multi stage cluster sampling process. Information on the demographic profile, behaviour, hypothesized determinants of behaviour and levels of exposure to interventions was collected.
