The initiative aims to sequence and analyze bacterial genomes rapidly and effectively through advanced genomic technologies The objective of the ODOG project is to sequence microbial genomes mainly bacterial isolates within one day in support of strong microbial genomic resources for public health and research use The main objectives of this project are to sequence the clinically and environmentally important bacterial genomes including drug resistant pathogens Understanding bacterial genomes at this level is of utmost value in understanding their pathogenicity virulence factors and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance Given the rapidly increasing worldwide concern regarding AMR this project aims to enhance Indias capacity for fighting drug resistant infections by bringing genome based data for diagnostic therapeutic and vaccine development ends CDFD will sequence genomes of bacterial isolates from varied sources ranging from clinical materials such as blood urine and sputum to the environmental ones in the course of this initiative Next generation sequencing technologies in the form of high throughput processes are deployed in the course of sequencing the entire bacterial genomes at a much faster and efficient manner Next generation sequencing is used with bioinformatics pipelines for assembly annotation and functional analyses in the sequence generated genomes so as to comprehend their genomic landscapes completely
