BAG-CRI347EM Proposal

The BAG CRI347EM consist on four laboratories from the Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona (IBMB-CSIC), located at the premises of the Barcelona Science Park: The Proteolysis(CRI3), the Crystallographic Methods Lab (CRI4), the Structural Mitolab (CRI7) and the protein desing and modelling laboratory (EM). Overall, these four labs include 7 postdocs, 5 Ph.D.students, 1 lab manager and 2 technicians dedicated to the crystallography of macromolecules. The present proposal has the following major focuses: (i) the structural-functional studies of proteases and their inhibitors, as well as of bacterial virulence and antibiotic resistance factors. (ii) the structural study of model proteins that help in developing crystallographic methods, (iii) the structural-functional analysis of mitochondrial DNA-binding proteins alone and in complex with their target DNA molecules, (iv) and the novo design of new proteins combining computational mehods and experimental characterization.
