Focusing on a unique, longitudinal capture-mark-recapture study of a wild population of long-lived Myotis myotis bats, we sequenced over 1.7 trillion base pairs of RNA from 150 blood samples (100 transcriptomes and 50 miRNomes) to ascertain the age-related transcriptional changes and the miRNA-directed regulation that may underlie bats’ exceptional longevity.
