An assessment of the fourth law of Kuryłowicz: does prototypicality of meaning affect language change?

This dataset consists of the data for the paper "De Smet, Isabeau. 2023. An assessment of the fourth law of Kuryłowicz: does prototypicality of meaning affect language change? Cognitive Linguistics 34(2). 261-296.". In this paper we test the validity of the fourth law of Kuryłowicz, by looking at three morphological doublets: plurals (e.g. vogels vs. vogelen), de apocope (roe vs. roede) and sjwa apocope (aard vs. aarde). We check for each case whether forms that have a more prototypical meaning tend to change more rapidly. The data for this paper consists of 6 datasets (one for each of the three case studies on type level and one for each of the three case studies on token level). It also consits of a file with R-code for each case study. The data is extracted from historical corpora and annotated with a number of psycholinguistic predictors.
