We selected five tetraplegic Paralympic athletes participating in the " Rugby Gigants " team in the city of Campinas, as well as seven non-athlete tetraplegic patients at the Spinal Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic at the Laboratory of Biomechanics and Rehabilitation of the Locomotor Apparatus (LABRAL) at Hospital das Clínicas, Faculty of Medical Sciences, UNICAMP. Patients underwent simple radiographic evaluation of the elbows, bilaterally, in two views (Anteroposterior and Side Profile) in the same device, and a subsequent interpretation by two orthopedists. The classification of elbow osteoarthritis used in this study was based on the Broberg and Morrey rating system: grade 0 (absence, normal elbow); grade 1 (mild joint narrowing and minimal osteophyte formation); grade 2 (moderate joint narrowing and moderate osteophyte formation); grade 3 (severe narrowing and joint destruction) [7].The Mayo Elbow Performance Score Questionnaire (MEPS) was the method chosen to assess quality of life with evaluation of the elbow through pain grading, range of motion, presence of instability and performance of daily activities. The score ranges between zero and 100 (Numeric MEPS). Values considered excellent are those equal to or greater than 90, good between 75 and 89, reasonable between 60 and 74 and bad below 60 points. PAIN: Patients who have no pain are given 45 points, while 30 points are given to patients with mild pain, 15 points for moderate pain, and zero points for severe pain. RANGE OF MOTION: 20 points are given when the arm reaches more than 100° of flexion, 15 points if between 100°-50° and five points if 50° or less.
