Research dataset for the article "Infection prevention and control capacity in Slovenian hospitals: Results of a first national infection prevention and control assessment framework survey (IPCAF)"

This research dataset accompanies the article “Infection Prevention and Control Capacity in Slovenian Hospitals: Results of a First National Infection Prevention and Control Assessment Framework Survey (IPCAF).” It contains the questionnaire and data collected as part of the first comprehensive national assessment of infection prevention and control (IPC) capacity in Slovenian hospitals using the World Health Organization (WHO) Infection Prevention and Control Assessment Framework (IPCAF). A national cross-sectional study was conducted involving all 29 Slovenian hospitals. Data collection took place from March to May 2025. The adapted IPCAF questionnaire was distributed to all Slovenian hospitals and was predominantly completed by healthcare professionals responsible for infection prevention and control. All 29 hospitals participated in the assessment. The IPCAF questionnaire covers eight core components of infection prevention and control: IPC programmes IPC guidelines IPC education and training Healthcare-associated infection (HAI) surveillance Multimodal strategies Monitoring/audit of IPC practices and feedback Workload, staffing and bed occupancy Built environment, materials and equipment for IPC at the facility level Each participating hospital completed the questionnaire as a self-assessment. Each of the eight core components contributes up to 100 points to the overall IPCAF score, resulting in a total score ranging from 0 to 800 points. According to the WHO classification, overall IPC capacity is classified as inadequate (0-200), basic (201-400), intermediate (401-600), or advanced (601-800). The dataset provides the supporting research data for the national analysis presented in the accompanying article, including assessment of IPC capacity across the eight IPCAF core components and the overall level of IPC implementation in Slovenian hospitals.
