Wetlands Monitoring with QuikSCAT

The Dartmouth Flood Observatory provides 2 data products for monitoring large seasonal wetlands based on data from the QuikSCAT/SeaWinds satellite. They are: QuikSCAT Wetland Surface Water Status: These raster images are produced on a weekly basis. They illustrate the QuikSCAT surface water status for the large wetland areas which are monitored by the Dartmouth Flood Observatory. This product is considered mature, although some further validation is required. QuikSCAT Wetland Water Surface Area Time Series: These data are based on the QuikSCAT polarization ratio data which has been processed to determine the surface water status. Where possible, these surface water area are compared to intermittent measurements of MODIS 250m optical data (or in some cases, discharge data from USGS gaging stations or precipitation data).
