Dataset for the Validation of an L2 Student Engagement Scale: Evidence from a Vietnamese Context

The L2 Student Engagement Dataset was generated to validate a multidimensional engagement scale within the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context of Vietnam. It comprises responses from 276 undergraduate English majors at a university in the Mekong Delta, collected through a 21-item self-report questionnaire grounded in the four theoretical dimensions of engagement, including behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and agentic. Each item was rated on a 6-point Likert scale ranging from 1 = Strongly disagree to 6 = Strongly agree. The dataset underwent rigorous psychometric testing, including content validation, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and reliability assessments, all of which demonstrated strong internal consistency and factorial validity.
