Empoasca pirisuga Matumura is a notorious phloem-feeding leafhopper that infests tea plants in Asia and grapevines in southern Europe. Although it has developed resistance to many registered insecticides including the neonicotinoid insecticide Imidacloprid, the mechanisms that regulate the resistance are poorly understood. To understand the molecular basis of thiamethoxam resistance, transcriptomic analyses were carried out to examine different transcriptomic responses between Empoasca pirisuga Matumura when exposed to the neonicotinoid insecticide imidacloprid and purified water.
