Metadata for the file “Mangrove_Cuckoo_location_data_2012_2015.csv”. <br>This file includes data for 16 Mangrove Cuckoos (Coccyzus minor) that were captured and fitted with VHF radio-transmitters. Birds were captured on Sanibel Island, Florida, USA and on the adjacent mainland in Fort Myers, Florida, USA. Radio-tagged birds were tracked between 13 April 2012 - 18 January 2015. Most locations of marked birds were estimated by triangulating the signal of the radio transmitter, as obtained using a handheld radio antenna. Some locations were estimated by an observer in an airplane. Location of individuals detected during aerial searches was estimated from the plane's Global Positioning System (GPS) after the signal had been localized using directional antennae and close circling by the pilot. Based on field trials, the estimated mean telemetry error associated with ground-based telemetry was 35.1 m (SD = 28.6 m; range = 5.7 m - 105.3 m). The telemetry error associated with aerial searches is unknown.<br>The following columns are included in this file:<br>Frequency: The frequency of the attached radio transmitter and the unique identifier for each individual in the study. <br>Latitude: Latitude (decimal degree) of the individual at the specified date and time. <br>Longitude: Longitude (decimal degree) of the individual at the specified date and time. <br>Date: Date and time at which the radio signal was recorded and at which the individual bird’s position (latitude, longitude) was estimated. <br>Aerial_or_ground: Whether the location was estimated by an observer on the ground or an observer in an airplane<br>Location_type: A variable indicating whether the record pertains to the initial capture of the individual or to a subsequent relocation.<br>For more information on these data, contact the principal investigator:<br>John Lloydjlloyd@vtecostudies.org
