High spatial resolution vegetation maps from satellite imagery of the South Alligator floodplain for use in biodiversity assessment and monitoring programs.\r\nAn assessment of how vegetation has changed across the South Alligator floodplain through comparison of recent and historical information.\r\n\nLineage: Vegetation maps at the community level (or better) were produced from very high spatial resolution satellite imagery, ALOS 10m and 2.5m pan sharpened, then Worldview2 data of Munmarlary, Boggy Plains and Yellow Waters on the South Alligator floodplain. To ensure a standardised approach a physics-based atmospheric correction was applied to the imagery followed by an object oriented image analysis incorporating additional geophysical information such as LiDAR and other GIS layers (such as historical vegetation survey data). A spectral classification was performed based on a current spectral libraries. Refinement of the community level vegation maps was based on the species spectral separability and sensor resolution. Validation was based on available detailed vegetation surveys and will be further enhanced after the Helisopter vegetation transects undertaken in 2012 become available.
