From Hormuz to European Consumer Prices: Shipping Disruptions, Oil & Gas Markets, and Energy Inflation

This repository contains the final replication package for the revised manuscript “From Hormuz to European Consumer Prices: Shipping Disruptions, Oil & Gas Markets, and Energy Inflation” submitted to Energy Sources, Part B: Economics, Planning, and Policy. The package provides the data, processed variables, regression inputs, regression outputs, and replication scripts used in the revised manuscript. It supersedes the earlier data package deposited at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19272629 because the revised manuscript adds Eurostat partner-country oil and gas import exposure variables, alternative Hormuz Disruption Index measures, country-and-month fixed-effects exposure-interaction models, lagged models, and updated regression tables. The package includes: 1. IMF PortWatch vessel-flow data for the Strait of Hormuz / chokepoint6, including the processed disruption-oriented Hormuz Disruption Index (HDI). The HDI is scaled so that higher values indicate stronger disruption, i.e., lower-than-normal transit activity. 2. Eurostat Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) data for aggregate energy and energy sub-components, including electricity, gas, and liquid fuels. 3. World Bank Pink Sheet oil and gas price data, including Brent crude oil and European natural gas price series. 4. Eurostat partner-country oil and gas import data used to construct measured exposure variables, including Hormuz-exposed oil import share, Gulf oil import share, Middle East oil import share, Qatar gas import share, and Gulf gas import share. 5. Processed country-month model input files used for the revised empirical analysis. 6. Regression outputs corresponding to the manuscript tables, including baseline association models, HDI alternative measures, oil and gas exposure-interaction models, lagged and distributed-lag models, HICP sub-component models, and sample robustness checks. 7. Python scripts for constructing the HDI measures, building exposure variables, preparing the model input panel, checking data integrity, and exporting manuscript-ready tables. 8. Documentation files, including a README, data dictionary, source manifest, table-to-file crosswalk, reproduction instructions, package integrity report, and SHA256 checksums. AGSI/ALSI gas storage and LNG terminal data are not included because restricted API access was not available in the present workflow. Storage and LNG infrastructure are therefore discussed in the manuscript as future research channels rather than estimated in the final models. The replication package is designed to support the revised manuscript’s Data Availability Statement and to allow readers to inspect the data sources, variable construction, sample restrictions, and regression outputs underlying the reported results.
