The Guide to the Records of Dr Jan Sapp Regarding the Briggs Affair documents and contextualises the records collected by Dr Jan Sapp about an investigation at Deakin University of a case of scientific fraud (c.1983-c.1986). The case centred on the research of Professor Michael Harvey Briggs, who ultimately confessed to having fabricated research findings on an oral contraceptive pill. The collection documented by the Guide consists of 17 inventory items, mostly paper format files, grouped into nine series. The total collection occupies 21 linear cm of shelf space (or its equivalent).
The Guide is the output of a research database. It was published online by the eScholarship Research Centre in 2007. The collection had previously been managed by the Australian Science Archives Project and its successor the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre since the early 1990s.
The records are held by the State Library of Victoria (MS 13603). The collection was listed by Ailie Smith and Ann McCarthy.
