Agricultural pollutants, particularly herbicides and pesticides, can adversely affect surrounding terrestrial and aquatic environments. 3-chloropropionic acid (3CP) is found in many herbicides and can persist for long periods of time, posing a potential health risk to both wildlife and humans. Rhodococcus sp. strain CX can utilise 3CP as a sole carbon source at significant concentrations (>=20mM) and may allow this bacterium to have a potential role to assist in the removal of 3CP from contaminated sites (bioremediation).
