EMBL Reptiles Database

The EMBL Reptile Database is intended to provide information on the classification of all living reptiles by listing all species and their pertinent higher taxa. The database therefore covers all living snakes, lizards, amphisbaenians and crocodiles. It is supposed to be a source of taxonomic data, thus providing primarily (scientific) names, synonyms, distributions and related data. However, a limited number of species accounts contain links to external sources including pictures. About a quarter to a third of the data has been provided directly by contributors in either electronic or paper form (i.e. reprints etc.). Some data come from online sources as listed on the family pages or in the species entries. Recently we have been focusing increasingly on current journals and other publications to keep the database up to date.
