Simulated Contamination Dataset in Water Distribution Networks

The dataset was generated using a hydraulic and water-quality simulation framework that models contaminant transport under predefined contamination injection scenarios. A calibrated network model was used as the baseline system, and contamination events were simulated by systematically varying injection locations, start times, durations, and contaminant release patterns. Hydraulic behavior and contaminant transport were simulated over time to capture the spatial and temporal evolution of contamination across network components. The dataset records time-resolved contamination states on network links, representing the presence and progression of contaminants throughout the system under different scenarios. For each simulation, the dataset includes information on contamination onset, propagation pathways, and temporal persistence across the network. This structure allows the dataset to be directly used for evaluating sensor placement configurations in terms of detection coverage and detection time, while maintaining consistency across experimental conditions.
