This thesis details the use of chitosan, a semisynthetic biopolymer, to create emulsion-templated microcapsules. These capsules entail use of specific crosslinker and silica to strengthen chitosan emulsion shells, thus making capsules. Through this work we have made strides in understanding the solution behaviour of chitosan and synthesis patterns related to silica.
