BRYOMOLECULES - D1.3 Inclusion of 40+ axenic liverwort accessions to the bryophyte culture collection

In this deliverable, we present 50 accessions of axenic liverworts which have been selected fordownstream analyses in the BRYOMOLECULES project, five of these recent additions (not yetsubject of RNA sequencing or chemical profiling). Plant material has been mostly collected fromSweden, as well as from Iceland, The Faroe Islands and Italy. All samples were provided by LU.The list includes collection information, such as sampling place, coordinates, date of sampling,and collector names.Sterile accessions have been achieved by surface sterilisation of either sporophytes or vegetativeplant material with a 0.05% solution of Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate for 1-2 minutes, followedby washing with sterile deionised water. Accessions are maintained on Petri dishes with 1% agarin a medium as described by Rudolph et al. (1988). The medium was 2 times the originalformulation with an addition of 12 mg of the fungicide Benomyl per litre to reduce the risk of fungalcontamination. If needed, samples have been treated to eliminate infections by cyanobacteriausing the antibiotic erythromycin. Collections are maintained in a culture room under artificialLED-tube light, 16/8 day/night cycles and a mean temperature of 20° C.The collection contains a wide range of liverworts, including both thallous species and leafyliverworts. Taxon names are provided according to Hodgetts et al. (2020). Eventual synonyms,mostly older names still commonly occurring in liverwort floras, are listed in a separate column.The column “Source” indicates whether the accessions have been obtained from spore culturesor from sterilized vegetative tissue. The column “RNA seq” indicates if the accession has beenincluded in transcriptomics analyses (see D3.1) and the column “Chemical” indicates if theaccession has been sent for phytochemical profiling (see D2.2). “Clade” and “Family” includethe taxonomic designation among liverworts, at order and family level, respectively.
