The European Space Agency’s EnVision mission to Venus will carry the NASA VenSAR radar instrument to produce near global high-resolution maps, topography, and brightness temperature measurements of the planet. The key enabling technology for this instrument is a large deployable antenna designed to meet the mission’s radar and radiometer requirements. This paper describes the design and initial development of one of the largest reflectarray antennas yet developed for a space flight application, a 6m x 0.7m offset-fed reflectarray antenna with a 2.75m focal length. The paper provides details on critical aspects of the design, including key RF and mechanical characteristics along with antenna system performance estimates.
