MAPSEM (Mapping Printed Sources of Entertainment Music in Twentieth-Century Italy) Dataset

This dataset is produced within the MAPSEM research project (Mapping Printed Sources of Entertainment Music in Twentieth-Century Italy), based at the Università degli Studi di Milano. It provides structured bibliographic and musicological data describing printed sheet music published in Italy during the twentieth century, with a focus on popular and entertainment music (musica d’uso, “musica leggera”). Each record integrates metadata originally catalogued in the SBN (Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale / Italian National Library Service) with additional data gathered through direct examination of the physical sources. This enrichment covers information not available in the SBN catalogue, including musical genres and rhythms, performer details, publisher addresses, and relationships between monographs and individual musical pieces. The data is distributed as a JSON file in which each top-level object represents a single monograph (a printed music publication) and its associated entities.
