Classification of the European Waste List (ISTAC: CL_LER)

The European List of Waste (LER) is a harmonised list of wastes that will be reviewed regularly.

Inclusion of a material on the list does not mean that it is waste in all circumstances. A material shall only be considered waste if it meets the definition laid down in the legislation in force.

Wastes on the list are classified by six-digit codes and four-digit and two-digit codes for sub-chapters and chapters respectively. Chapters and sub-chapters define the types of activities that generate waste.

Includes LER-RAEE codes. The LER-WEEE codes, which are exclusively national in scope, are composed of the LER codes of Decision 2000/532/EC to which are added two digits indicating the category of equipment from which the waste comes and the type of specific treatment of the waste.
