The complete chloroplast genome and phylogenetic analysis of Sphaeropteris lunulata in Guam

This project reports the generation of Oxford Nanopore long-read sequencing data used to assemble and characterize the complete chloroplast genome of Sphaeropteris lunulata (Cyatheaceae), a terrestrial tree fern native to Micronesia and Polynesia that is locally rare and endangered in Guam. High-molecular-weight genomic DNA was extracted from fresh leaf tissue collected from a wild population in Guam and sequenced using the Oxford Nanopore PromethION 2 Solo platform. The resulting long-read data were used to assemble a complete circular chloroplast genome and to assess sequencing depth and genome coverage. These data provide a genomic resource for studies of fern systematics, plastome evolution, and conservation genetics in Pacific island plant taxa.
