A metate was recovered from Feature 1, a large storage pit that yielded a calibrated
radiocarbon age of AD 1400-1450 on corn from the fill. This Late Plains Village or early
Protohistoric site is located in a dune field between the Cimarron and Beaver River drainages in
western Oklahoma. The grinding surface of the metate was washed to recover pollen evidence
of foods that might have been ground.
