Inadequate management of pig fecal waste endangers human health and the environment, causing soil pollution, the spread of zoonoses and eutrophication of water sources. This nutrient-rich waste also contains antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), which poses a significant risk to public health. This systematic review presents data on the physical-chemical and biological characterization of pig waste, with the aim of optimizing its use in stabilization processes, improving biological digestion and managing the presence of resistant bacteria. Operational parameters for the stabilization of waste are analyzed, including composting, production of biosolids and biogas. The results seek to identify problems and propose solutions for a more sustainable and efficient management of these wastes, thus protecting the environment and public health.
