Kazakhstan in Global Nuclear Governance: An Audited Relational Network Dataset

This dataset contains the relational network underlying an analysis of Kazakhstan’s structural position within the international nuclear governance architecture. The network comprises 53 nodes and 102 undirected edges representing documented relationships among states, international organizations, treaty and review mechanisms, nuclear governance initiatives, research institutions, and civil-society actors. Relationships capture documented forms of institutional participation, treaty-based interaction, diplomatic engagement, organizational cooperation, and epistemic linkage. Edge weights are operationalized on a 1–5 ordinal scale to distinguish differences in the relative strength and institutionalization of relationships. The deposited GEXF file contains the network structure together with node and edge attributes required for visualization and network analysis in Gephi or other compatible network-analysis software. Node-level attributes include degree, weighted degree, degree centrality, betweenness centrality, weighted betweenness centrality, closeness centrality, and community membership. Edge-level attributes include relationship type, evidence class, and weight. The final network was reconstructed through multi-source documentary triangulation and subsequently audited at the relationship level. Relationships that could not be sufficiently substantiated, generic structural hierarchies, and contextual entities that did not function as relational actors were excluded from the final analytical network. The dataset is intended to support transparency, reproducibility, and further analysis of brokerage, institutional connectivity, and relational structures in nuclear governance, with particular attention to Kazakhstan’s intermediary position across institutional, diplomatic, and epistemic domains.
