Salmonella enterica ssp. enterica ser. Typhimurium genome sequencing

In order to monitor bacteriophage transfer, it is of great advantage to have available an indicator strain, i.e. a non-lysosgenic strain susceptible to infection by bacteriophage derived from other strains. The wildtype Salmonella enterica ssp. enterica serovar Typhimurium strain Q1 was identified in the 1950´s as having been "cured" of endogenous prophage, and therefore served as an appropriate indicator strain for characterization of other Salmonella bacteriophage.
