A species diversity dataset of butterflies in Dapeng District of Shenzhen

As the main pollinators of plants and an important part of the food chain, butterflies are an indispensable part of the natural ecosystem. In the context of global change and habitat degradation, the investigation and monitoring of butterfly diversity will help us assess the quality of the ecological environment and formulate reasonable ecological protection measures. The data set consists of field survey results of butterflies in Shenzhen Dapeng New District from 2022 to 2023, covering 8 transects, and each transect was surveyed 4 times (July, August, September 2022, March 2023). A total of 802 butterflies were recorded, belonging to 9 families and 105 species. This dataset consists of five parts: 1) collecting records of butterfly species of four transect sampling events in three types of habitat; 2）photos of mounted species of 85 butterfly species (170 images); 3）photos of live specimens of 64 butterfly species (266 images); 4) species list of 105 butterfly species; 5) statistical chart of the number of butterfly species and diversity analysis of the three types of habitats. This study systematically surveyed the species of butterflies in Shenzhen Dapeng New District. By analyzing the diversity of butterflies in different habitats, the ecological environment status in different regions of Dapeng New District could be assessed. This study will provide scientific data for strengthening regional species monitoring and biodiversity conservation.
