Several metagenomes of microbial communities that inhabit hypersaline, shallow soda lake brines spanning a salinity range of 170-400g/L were obtained from the Kulunda Steppe in South-Western Siberia. Several draft genomes were obtained from yet uncultured organisms that can provide insight into their molecular mechanisms for adaptation to high pH and high salinity, metabolic capacities and environmental distribution.
