Potential future glacier lake formation in western North America

We modelled subglacial depressions ('overdeepenings') that are >0.5 km2 under all 45,963 glaciers in North America. To generate this dataset, we used the ice thicknesses from Farinotti et al. (2019) and the ALOS 30m DEM. This is one of the first datasets that attempts to predict where subglacial depressions were exisit across North America, along with a evaluation on their likelihood of forming into a filled lake. This can be used for studies that want to understand potential future interactions between proglacial lakes and glaciers or can be used to understand future GLOF hazards or water resources.
