Transcriptomic study to understand scab resistance in pecan

Pecan scab caused by a fungus, Venturia effusa, is the most damaging pecan disease in the southeastern United States. To understand molecular mechanisms of scab resistance in pecan, an RNA-sequencing-based comparative transcriptomic study of the pecan cultivar 'Desirable' was carried out after inoculating leaf samples with two scab isolates, which differ in their level of pathogenicity. Samples were collected and analyzed at three different time points (24, 48, and 96 hours post-inoculation with the fungus).
