The dataset is obtained from an ongoing research on a downhole pulsed neutron instrument. The instrument utilizes a 215.9-millimeter (8.5-inch) drill bit for drilling. To investigate the impact of shielding structures on neutron and gamma detection, data with different materials and boron-containing materials of various thicknesses are acquired through Monte Carlo simulations. The dataset mainly consists of 2 origin files, containing graphical data as outlined in the paper:gammaData.opj is gamma plot data that can be opened using Origin. It includes thicknesses of inner and outer shielding, boron content, and their effects on inelastic and capture gamma rays, along with associated errors.neutronData.opj is neutron plot data that can be opened using Origin. It encompasses thicknesses of near and far detectors, the influence of boron materials on neutron counting rates, ratios, sensitivity, and associated errors.
