Competency based assessment is a system for assessing a person's knowledge and skills. Assessment is based on the actual skills and knowledge a person can demonstrate in the workplace or in other relevant contexts (such as the training environment). The system also enables comparison of qualifications against recognised competency standards. Competency based assessment acknowledges that learning can be derived from a variety of sources including prior learning, training courses and skills acquired on the job. In the New South Wales Fire Brigades competency based assessment was primarily used to test skills acquired during training programs.- This instruction manual was designed to assist Fires Brigades personnel when Competency Based Training and Assessment forms.
