Monoterpenes from an aqueous extract of Paeonia lactiflora roots and their lipid-lowering effect

A new monoterpene, 2′,6′-di-O-galloylalbiflorin (1), along with four known analogues (2–5), was isolated from an aqueous extract of Paeonia lactiflora roots. The structural elucidation of these compounds was achieved through the application of key spectroscopic approaches, specifically HR-ESIMS and 1D/2D NMR. Their inhibitory effects on intestinal lipid accumulation were evaluated at 10 μM using Caenorhabditis elegans as an in vivo screening model. Among the tested compounds, 3 and 5 displayed the most significant activity in attenuating lipid deposition.
