Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is the etiological agent of caseous lymphadenitis (CLA), a disease that affects different groups of animals worldwide, specifically sheep and goat in production areas. The bacterium also causes ulcerative lymphangitis (an infection of the lower limbs) and chronical abscesses in the pectoral region and ventral abdomen of horses. Infections by this bacterium are responsible for a significant economic impact, such as decreasing meat yield, damaging wool, and leather, decreasing reproductive efficiency, culling of affected animals and increasing morbidity and mortality rates.The MEX30 strain was isolated from an intramuscular abscess of a male horse in the city of Valparaiso, Zacatecas/Mexico.
