Data to support analysis of root biomass and productivity in coastal swamp forests of Louisiana (USA)

Coastal swamp forests (CSF) in Southeastern Louisiana (USA) are subjected to sediment starvation, salinity intrusion, and chronic submergence. These ecosystems are generally quite productive, but the combinations of stressors along a changing coastal landscape have created vulnerabilities to large areas of remaining CSF. Vulnerabilities to submergence in coastal wetlands are often related to root zone processes. Here, we provide data from a one-year study (2022) of root productivity and assessment of biomass stocks across nine (9) CSF in Louisiana. Data and interpretations are reported by root size class and are relative to a soil depth of 30-cm.
