TIM5-like cyanophages compose a novel lineage of tailed dsDNA phages belonging to the family Myoviridae that infects the ubiquitous marine cyanobacterium, Synechococcus.The lineage got its name by the first described representative, S-TIM5. Three genomes of the related TIM5-like cyanophages isolated months apart in different environmental conditions on different Synechococcus hosts were additionally sequenced to study the genomic diversity of this lineage.
