This project aims to combine in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) to probe the electronic structure evolution of metal-based catalysts used for CO2 electroreduction to long-chain hydrocarbons, which remains largely unexplored. Understanding active sites' structure and oxidation state under operating conditions is essential for elucidating C-C coupling mechanisms. The unique capabilities of SNBL BM31 allow simultaneous monitoring of key catalytic components under electrochemical environments, providing crucial insights into the role of electronic structure dynamics in enhancing long-chain hydrocarbon selectivity. These findings may open new avenues in CO2 electroreduction, offering a novel strategy for sustainable long-chain hydrocarbon production.
