Description:This dataset contains experimental data from Study 1 of the landing biomechanics research project, which investigated vertical ground reaction forces (VGRF) and lower-limb kinematics during drop landings. The study focused on comparing the effects of different landing mat types on landing mechanics in young female participants, including both skilled gymnasts and unskilled controls. In recent years there have been changes in the rules for the construction of impact surfaces (EU standards, FIG rules). The mats are therefore made of different materials and are constantly being developed. However, previous studies have reported that these standards and the testing of new types of mats do not respect the repetitive mechanical loading of the lower limbs. In this project, we aim to develop an optimal structure of the landing mat that reflects the musculoskeletal response based on empirical data by using sophisticated biomechanical analysis during testing of novel impact surfaces. Differences in kinetic and kinematic variables that are associated with potential risk of injury during landing phase on new types of impact surfaces will be measured. The dataset includes: Raw and processed data from motion capture and force plate measurements. Excel file with exported and organized data for all measured variables in Study 1, including: Peak vertical ground reaction force (VGRFmax) Time to peak VGRF (tVGRFmax) Peak knee and ankle joint angles Other relevant kinematic parameters. Data format: Excel (.xlsx) files for processed and exported data. Column headers follow standardized biomechanical terminology for interoperability. Purpose and reuse:The dataset can be used to replicate the analyses from the original study, conduct secondary statistical evaluations, or serve as a reference for landing mechanics research and sports science education.
