Exceptional transport - Department of Calvados

The routes of exceptional transport in the department of Calvados are decided by the prefect after consultation with the president of the departmental council.

Exceptional transport refers to the use of "exceptional consignments" of goods, machinery or vehicles whose dimensions or weight exceed the statutory limits and are liable to obstruct traffic or cause accidents. This transport is subject to prior authorisation and strict conditions (see Ministerial Order of 4 May 2006 on the exceptional transport of goods, machinery or vehicles and combinations of vehicles with more than one trailer).

**Collection context**
Since 2002, the Department of Calvados has been managing a geographic information system - GIS - with a road component. All information relating to the management of the departmental public road domain is provided through the Department's Road Geographic Information System (SIGR).

The road graph is digitized from departmental orthophotos.

The latest updates to the road graph were made from the 2020 IGN orthophoto.

**Collection method**
The geographical information center of the Department of Calvados has updated the circuit of roads assigned to exceptional transport in the road geographic information system (SIGR), pursuant to the prefectural order in force defining the road networks "120 tons", "94 tons" and "72 tons", accessible to exceptional convoys.
