The volumes in this series state that they are 'indexes' on the spine of the volume, however, the contents suggest that these are in fact inward correspondence registers. These have been attributed to the Commercial branch through the original metadata kept for these records. No other provenance is indicated.These volumes may be an alphabetical index but do not use the A to Z tabs. Instead, the folios are numbered (and in volume three, these numbers are written over the letter tabs of the index). Each folio of the volume has the letters A to I written vertically down the page with the following details against each letter:- File number,- date,- name,- subject content,- to whom sent for action
