Project Overview: A range of solutions will be required to reach globally agreed emissions reductions targets for carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is part of the suite of technologies that will contribute to lowering atmospheric emissions of CO2 from Australia's energy system. There are a wide variety of technologies at various stages of technical and commercial readiness, with more development underway for cost effective CO2 capture and storage. Our research will provide new knowledge to inform cost-efficient measurement, monitoring and verification (MMV) of the environment of CCS projects in coastal waters. --o-- Nutrient measurements on seawater samples from CTD and underway samples. Samples analysed in Hobart after voyage. Nutrients analysed Silicate (SiO44- as Si), Phosphate (PO43- as P), Nitrate (NO3- as N) plus Nitrite (NO2- as N) referred to as NOx, Nitrite (NO2- as N) and Ammonium (NH4+ as N). Nutrient data quality good; Japanese KANSO certified reference materials for silicate, phosphate, nitrate and nitrite in seawater (RMNS CD) was included with each analysis run to determine accuracy. All data are GO-Ship compliant. Nutrient samples were analysed using segmented flow SEAL AA3 and results are in µmol/L. In-house methods SOP 001, SOP 002, SOP 003 and SOP 004 were used to analyse nutrients. Calibration Information: Silicate: Standard deviation of 4 replicate certified reference materials (RMNS) was 0.028 µmol/L The average value of these 4 measurements was 13.979 µmol/L compared to the certified value of 14.264 µmol/L. Data were not adjusted. Phosphate: Standard deviation of 4 replicate certified reference materials (RMNS) was 0.0068 µmol/L The average value of these 4 measurements was 0.0468 µmol/L compared to the certified value of 0.457 µmol/L. Data were not adjusted. Nitrate + Nitrite: Standard deviation of 4 replicate certified reference materials (RMNS) was 0.011 µmol/L The average value of these 4 measurements was 5.614 µmol/L compared to the certified value of 5.648 µmol/L. Data were not adjusted. Nitrite: Standard deviation of 4 replicate certified reference materials (RMNS) was 0.0021 µmol/L The average value of these 4 measurements was 0.0308 µmol/L compared to the certified value of 0.018 µmol/L. This difference is within the method detection limit for this analyte. Data were not adjusted. The RMNS is not reliable as a CRM for Ammonia in seawater.
