Haiti (2009): AN ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND PRACTICES (KAP) RELATED TO BLOOD DONATION IN HAITI

This proposed Knowledge, Attitudes and Perceptions (KAP) survey will help the National Program of Blood Transfusions (PNST) and its partners to expand blood collections in areas outside of Port-au-Prince and other big cities and to increase the proportion of blood collected from low-risk regular donors by improving the blood service's understanding of current and potential blood donors' views about blood donation. The results will inform new donor recruitment and retention strategies and allow PNST and partners donor recruiters to more effectively target public awareness messages. This is a descriptive, transversal study, using quantitative data to describe the prevalence and distribution (geographic and socioeconomic) of positive and negative attitudes associated with blood donation and qualitative data from key opinion leaders to expand on the issues covered in the quantitative questionnaire.
