资源简介:
We targeted a total of 25 buildings across the three college campuses for structured bird-window collision surveys (UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State University, Meredith College in NC, USA). Our focus is during the fall migration period (Aug 1st to Nov 30th) from 2021 to 2023. The data collected from those periods came from structured collision surveys led by City Bird and incidental reports from City Bird participants and iNaturalist observations. The structured survey was conducted for 21 consecutive days (2021 and 2022) and 30 consecutive days (2023) during the peak periods of fall migration (mid-September to mid-October). The structured survey was conducted for three fall seasons for UNC, two fall seasons for NCSU (2022 and 2023), and one fall season for Meredith College (2023). This dataset was collected as a citizen science project via City Bird. During each survey, the observer walked around the perimeter of the targeted building looking for alive birds or carcasses and recorded any observations using a Google Form. The observer would record the time and date of the observation, which campus and building was surveyed, the weather, length of time spent surveying, whether the bird was alive or dead, GPS coordinates of the observation, and the species identification if the observer was able to identify the bird. Incidental surveys were also submitted using the same form. Within the dataset, sheet 1 is the data and sheet 2 is the description of each column.
