Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) boundaries 2001

Contains boundary and attribute information for parcels of public, private and Aboriginal lands in Australia. Data are sourced primarly from government gazette notices, cadastral maps and plans.Data are suitable for GIS applications.Important Note: On 15 April 2004 the Australian Government announced its intention to close down ATSIC and the associated agency, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services (ATSIS). ATSIC Boundaries 2001 contains the geographic boundaries of the Regional Councils Areas and Wards as defined by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC). These boundaries are provided in vector format with Wards and Regional Council Areas represented by polygons. A nominal scale of around 5 million and a minimum 50 square kilometre threshold limit for land parcels was used in the generalisation of this product from the National Public and Aboriginal Lands data.
