Dalbergia oliveri Genome sequencing and assembly

Dalbergia oliveri Gamble ex Prain is one of the around 250 species in the pantropical genus Dalbergia Linn. f. (Fabaceae: Faboideae), many of which produce extremely valuable rosewood timber. Rosewoods were the world's most trafficked wild product between 2005 and 2014. D. oliveri was classified as endangered in the IUCN Red List in 1998. We presented a complete, draft assembly of D. oliveri using a combination of ~22X long-read Oxford Nanopore sequencing and ~20X Pore-C proximity ligation. We produced 33,558 unique gene models, the majority of which were functionally annotated and are an improved version of a previous study. Our study offers a reference-grade genome of D. oliveri, which has important potential for conservation implications, such as discovering adaptive variation and marker-assisted selection for adaptive traits.
